You arrived here because you probably met me somewhere and rather than give out separate addresses for all my various interests/projects, I found it easier to collect them in one spot. Maybe I even had some business cards made.

Best of 2011

Each year, I try to pick my best 12 shots. Each year, it seems like a struggle but I think a few came out okay:

Oahu

Hawaii 2011
This was a two shot composite for dynamic range and exposure. I also included the helitour light beam from one of the shots, since it seemed cool.

Firework

This was taken on my smaller point and shoot. It's a longer exposure, but with a small aperture and low ISO. After holding the camera still, the handheld shots sort of came out okay.

Axolotl

We had these last year, but they weren't the easiest to take a photo of. This was a camera phone shot. It always surprises me when I end up with a personal top shot taken on the least likely camera.

Mocking Bird

This was at a bird count during the winter. On my way back to the truck, this mocking bird was popping around the rocks. It let me get close for a while before flying off. Luckily I got a few shots in.

July 4th

My only portrait shot in this year's collection. I had a few other shots, were the main focus was half out of the frame, while something else was taking primary focus. Not sure why but that seemed to pop up a few times this year.

Oahu Beach

Hawaii 2011
Several Hawaii pictures were included this year. Mainly because that was the only point this year that I had time to dedicate to photography. This is a three shot exposure bracket taken just after dawn. Ghosting between images was removed, and I tried to not go overboard on the tone-mapping and color contrast. Symmetry was also something I was going for.

Pigeon

Hawaii 2011
There were no shortage of birds in Hawaii. Pigeons came in the normal blue/purple variety as well as versions of white. It came down to one of each, but I like the expression on this one.

Hawaii Stars

Hawaii 2011
Honestly my main goal in Hawaii was sky photos, which I managed to fail at despite lugging a tripod around. But I've learned that the photos you come home with are far from the ones you set out to get. Of the star photos I attempted, this was resting on the car roof. Just as the exposure was completing, a car drove up and shot some light into the frame. I think it actually ended up adding to the picture, so I rolled with it.

Planthopper Nymph Mold

I really didn't do much macro this year. Was going to specialize in video, but it didn't happen. I did find this nymph overtaken by some mold. Gave me the chance to perform some focus staking on it rather cleanly.

Whipscorpion

I've been wanting to see a whipscorpion for a while, and only got to see one in a pet store. Still too the opportunity to photograph it. I experimented with different compositions at each zoom level. I think this one came out the best.

Tarantula

Again, another pet store photos, but I like how the background compliments the focus of the photo.

Scorpion

Technically not the best photo, but I liked the pose.
